The Ethereal
Dance

A manifestation of transience

A singular manifestation of transience. Captured during a traditional celebration, this work isolates the motion of a twelve-year-old girl in mid-dance. The deliberate soft focus and interplay of violet illumination transform a foundational life event into a timeless, painterly abstraction of youth and joy.

This Masterwork is a definitive entry in the Masterworks Registry—a singular physical artifact engineered for multi-generational endurance.

As the sole custodian of this 1-of-1 edition, your acquisition secures a pivotal moment in the artist's chronology. This work represents the apex of the PPL mission, establishing the uncompromising standard of archival excellence that defines the broader Anthology Collection.

The Work

A Painterly
Abstraction

The Ethereal Dance does not document; it transforms. The deliberate soft focus pulls the viewer from the documentary into the painterly — from the particular into the universal. A twelve-year-old girl becomes every child, every moment of pure, unguarded joy.

The violet illumination — drawn from the natural light of the celebration — wraps the figure in something between memory and dream. This is photography at the threshold of another medium entirely.

The Medium

Hahnemühle
Metallic

Hahnemühle Photo Rag Metallic is one of the most demanding substrates in fine art printmaking. Its 340gsm cotton rag base provides archival permanence, while the metallic coating introduces a chromatic depth and internal luminosity unavailable on conventional papers.

The violet tones in this work achieve a saturation and iridescence on this substrate that is, quite simply, impossible to reproduce on screen. The work must be seen in person to be understood.

The Artist

Arnold Szmerling —
Visual Legacy Artist

Arnold Szmerling has spent thirty years in professional photographic practice across Australia, Israel, and Dubai — building a body of work that is simultaneously archival and deeply personal.

The PPL Masterworks are the apex of this practice: singular works that occupy the space between photography and painting, between documentation and memory. Each is produced with the same obsessive attention to material quality that defines the great photographic print houses of Europe.

Private commissions and Masterworks enquiries are handled by invitation. All acquisitions are treated in complete confidence.
